Feedback Screencasts
So Your Student Writers Can Soar
What is a Feedback Screencast? Watch this video to see an example of a Feedback Screencast. I created this short video to provide a fourth grade student feedback about his writing piece. |
As a master's student in the Educational Technology program at Madonna University, I wanted to implement a change that would help students of differing learning styles and backgrounds. While researching, I found Mary Beth Hertz (2012) referenced screencasts as a powerful way to provide students specific and detailed feedback about their work.
The more I thought about screencasts being widely used in schools, I started to see the implications for improved student writing. Listening and watching a teacher give feedback on video allows students to watch multiple times for clarification, allows parents to be more connected and supportive, and allows teachers to be more thoughtful and reflective about the feedback they provide. This combination of benefits for all stakeholders will help students of different learning styles soar! |
Rest assured, Feedback Screencasts are not a replacement for one-on-one time spent with students! They are meant to enhance the interaction, allowing teachers to also connect with students and families at home.
